Description:

The City of Grande Prairie invites submissions from qualified vendors to provide all necessary labor and equipment to provide Annual Inspections, Testing & Maintenance of all City owned Fire Extinguishers.

A full list of the City’s fire extinguisher assets that will require service is attached in the “Uploaded Documents” section of bids & tenders, called “City of GP Fire Extinguisher Asset List” (18 pages).  All these fire extinguisher assets will require annual inspection and certification. Other fire extinguisher services (recharge, 5/6 year maintenance, low pressure hydrostatic testing, high pressure hydrostatic testing) will be requested on an “as needed” basis.

All work performed including tests & inspections shall be in accordance to NFPA 10 and Alberta Fire Code (AFC) 97-FCB-002 & 97-FCB-005. Only qualified staff of the certified fire extinguisher servicing company can affix tags or labels to fire extinguishers.

Service Specifics for Annual Maintenance of Fire Extinguishers:

  • Annual Inspections are to be scheduled with the City Facilities Planner/ Scheduler.
  • Fire Extinguisher annual testing & inspections are to be completed between April 1 to April 30, as required by Fire Code.
  • Only qualified NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) certified fire protection technicians shall be used. Specify any deviation away from this in your submission.
  • All Fire Extinguishers (new or existing) must be securely mounted in their specified locations.
  • The City of Grande Prairie makes a concerted effort to minimize our impact on the environment, whenever possible, the City will perform Hydrostatic Testing vs purchasing new fire extinguishers.  Old extinguishers are to be recycled.
  • Classification Numbers must be confirmed during testing to ensure all Fire Extinguishers are serviced.
  • Upon completion of each building, an email must be sent to the Facility Planner Scheduler that pertains to the building.  All fire extinguisher’s information related to CKC (Twin Ice Arena, Eastlink Centre, GP Gymnastics, Grandstand Building, Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool, St. Joe’s Mechanical room) will be emailed to ckcplannerscheduler@cityofgp.com , all other City of Grande Prairie buildings will be sent to Facilities_Planner_Scheduler@cityofgp.com.
  • A hard and electronic copy of all reports must be completed and submitted to Shawn Clarkson sclarkson@cityofgp.com in the Facilities Department, by July 31st of each year.
  • Separate invoices must be issued for each building.
  • The “City of GP Fire Extinguisher Asset List” may be subject to minor changes, vendor is to confirm assets when on site, and will be paid for services to extinguishers that are actually serviced. Any deviations from the list that are noticed should be brought to the City’s attention.
  • A copy of the previous report can be made available for reference to the successful bidder.
  • Some buildings may require assisted access and security systems to be disarmed.  Please contact the Facility Maintenance Department at 780-538-0367 for arrangements.
